Recap: Job/Internship Hunting Tips Workshop

The Professional Development Series continued into last Wednesday's GBM with a job/internship hunting workshop led by...

Catherine Stier

Director of Innovation and Recruiting at Germer International

(Recruiting for Pharmaceutical and Biotech Industries)

Some key takeaways:

  • Utilizing your network is a great way to learn about opportunities. Think outside of just professors. Consider your part time jobs, your volunteer experiences and speakers from campus events (such as Catherine!)
  • International students shouldn't give up hope about finding internships or work in the US! Know the boundaries of your visa and be up front about them; i.e. if you still have 4 or 5 years left, make that known!
  • Keep learning. Teach yourself new skills. Volunteer. Read. Two books Catherine recommended are: The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor and Rising Strong by Brene Brown.

*Catherine invites all IBA members who attended the workshop to connect with her on LinkedIn!
